Lorenzo Musetti gave his 2025 French Open semifinal match against Carlos Alcaraz everything he had. The rising Italian is now well inside the ATP top 10, and likely to remain that way, unless an issue that popped up against Alcaraz continues.

In the first set, the Spaniard was struggling to make what are normally easy shots for him and having far too many unforced errors. It says a lot about his talent that even while he was far from perfect, he still had the set at 4-5, but Musetti came through with a break and we appeared to have a real match on our hands.

Things began to change in set two, though. Alcaraz slowly began to work his way back into his usual form, and he began to pressure Musetti's service games much more. The set still went to a tie-break, but Alcaraz won that easily.

Even with the match tied at a set, Alcaraz appeared to be leading and pulling away. The third set was not close, and Musetti either ran out of gas or came up with an injury. Late in the third set, it was obvious his left hamstring was an issue. He never had it taped and tried to play through the pain.

The injury to Musetti only sped up the eventual outcome, however, and he retired down 0-2 in the fourth set. But the injury was not why Alcaraz lost. Once he began to play more sharply, there was little chance that the Italian was going to be able to stay competitive.

After a first set filled with errors, Alcaraz finished with 32 winners against 29 unforced errors. Musetti finished 18 and 31, respectively. The Spaniard took the match 4-6 7-6(3) 6-0 2-0.

Alcaraz will play the winner of the Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner match in the final.
