Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina is already eyeing her next major goals on the WTA Tour. She is set to take home a Grand Slam title and top the rankings.
Elina Svitolina is the defending champion in women’s singles at the Brisbane International. If she can perform well there, it would be the perfect start to the 2019 WTA Tour. The Ukrainian tennis star is fresh off of a win at the WTA Finals.
Her win in Singapore is the biggest of her career so far. Now, Svitolina is poised to take home a Grand Slam singles title and top the rankings in women’s singles tennis.
Talking to the media at the start of the year, Svitolina stressed that her health and mental preparedness take precedence moving forward. She is coming off of a huge win at the WTA Finals in Singapore, but that does not mean she can be complacent in the early months of 2019.
"“My goals are always to win a Grand Slam, to become number one. They are lifetime goals, and I try to stay really focused each tournament to win as many titles as I can.” – Elina Svitolina at the start of the 2019 WTA Tour"
The upcoming WTA Tour features Svitolina taking on the likes of Romanian great Simona Halep, defending Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki, and German tennis veteran Angelique Kerber. These players are just a few of the several dozen women’s singles stars making moves right now. American Sloane Stephens, Jelena Ostapenko, Petra Kvitova, and even American tennis legend Serena Williams remain in the mix.
Women’s singles tennis is jam-packed with incredible talent in 2019. Even young stars who have already experienced unprecedented success, like Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard, could play a pivotal role in the coming year.
